I just received my new Porsche piwis iii tester and I would share my thoughts since I have used Durametric cable clone, PIWIS II and the 3 now.
The review is based on vxdiagshop.com’s PIWIS 3 (#VX16-B)

Why I bought the piwis iii?
Durametric cannot do the coding I need. it has very very limited coding abilities, a PIWIS can could absolutely anything.
Since the PIWIS 2 is obsolete I don’t know if Porsche is supplying updates for it. The only issue I see is that the newest variants of certain modules will not be able to be programmed.  All of the 2’s I see have the last software that was issued a few years back so there may not be updates for it. If you buy used modules with the same version as the one you remove then this isn’t an issue. Since module replacement is an unusual thing unless you buy a flood car like me I don’t see this as an issue.
The piwis 3 is faster but the tablet one might be equally fast. My particular 2 never worked well for guided fault finding and my three is better but refers to documents that only dealers have.  It supports all the older models that PIWIS 2 supported as well. PIWIS 2 is limited to <2017.  2018 versions and newer have no choice but to buy a III version.
How does the piwis tester iii works?
I should be more precise as I did not purchase an actual Piwis III. It is actual a factory tool and currently sells for $5,900 which was way too rich for my blood. It is in the factory carrying case with all the cables and WLAN cap for the VCI that plugs into the usb mini port and allows for wireless connection to the car, along with the multimeter and oscilloscope cable.  What I bought, which sells for around $2,000 and what is for sale in most places, is a Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.1 installed and the Porsche PIWIS III software (Current version is 38.9) installed and includes a USB wired VCI the same one the factory tester uses.  I both cases the VCI and software have been modified to disable factory authentication and naturally there is no automatic updates. If you did have a PPN account, this tool would update normally. Most offer one year of updates and then charge for subsequent years. It should be known that the updates are really for adding new model years, not software changes. On to the review.

It is a nice laptop with a touch screen and a screen pen included. The Porsche software starts automatically, but the Microsoft button functions and you can do other things at the same time such as TeamViewer or open an internet page. The VCI ( the part that connects to the diagnostic port) is smaller and the cable connecting is shorter, but it is a standard USB to miniUSB cable so you can purchase an longer one anywhere.

The tester can be changed from after sales mode to developer mode which allows for a lot of special features ( looking at you who want to disable start stop permanently). The software is faster, and easier to use than the previous version. For example on the diagnostic program, the tester auto detects the car model. Just plug it in, turn the key on and it does its thing. For me, I’m not sure if it is a function of the unit I have or not but the guided fault finding works well. Click on any fault and press the fault finding button and the unit tries to provide you a diagnostic plan. The plan is better and the English description is better. I haven’t tried the wiring diagram software but I imagine it works as well as the previous version.

There is a new ODBC program on the unit that reads standard ODBC codes, I am wondering if this unit can be used for other cars for simple code reading. I will try it on a buddy’s car next week and let you know. There is a oscilloscope function and a multimeter function but the laptop clones don’t come with these cables.

The PT3G interface runs on my 996 Turbo and I’ve used it to PPI 2018 Panamera Cayenne and a 2019 911 with no problems.

All in all it is a better tool but really can’t do more than the 2 can do, only faster and on cars from model year 2018 to current which the 2 can’t do.

The sensors are built in the skid ecu( ABS module ) only steering angle sensor is in the steering.

NOTE: When centering VSC sensor, make sure to set zero point of the yaw rate sensor & G sensor are integrated in (brake actuator ASSY ) and steering sensor is located in the steering

Inspection steps

CAUTION:

When the skid control computer (brake actuator ASSY) has been replaced, make sure to perform VSC centering.

1. Centering of VSC sensor

CAUTION:

When the skid control computer (brake actuator ASSY) has been replaced, make sure to perform VSC centering.
Make sure to perform VSC centering on a level surface (grade of 1% or less). While centering, do not shake the vehicle or open/close a door.
NOTE: When centering VSC sensor, make sure to set zero point of yaw rate sensor & G sensor (brake actuator ASSY is integrated) and steering sensor.

(1) Turn IGN OFF.

(2) Shift into neutral and apply the parking brake.

(3) Connect SSM3 to DLC3.

(4) Turn IGN ON.

(5) Set the steering wheel in a straight position.

(6) On the SSM3 screen, select [ABS/VDC System]->[Work Support]->[VSC centering mode].

(7) Following the SSM3 screen, perform centering of the VSC sensor.

2. Changing modes

When it is necessary to temporarily stop the control while operating the vehicle on a device such as free rollers, enter into the check mode. While in the check mode, DTCs listed in the list may be stored.

If any DTCs are stored, clear the DTCs using Subaru SSM III. After turning IGN OFF -> ON, the conditions are normal if speed sensor related DTCs are not stored.

There is a setting of speed limit for Volvo truck in ECU parameter,if you want to change the speed limit,you need program a new value into the ECU.So here i will show you guide on how to use Volvo PTT diagnostic software to change speed limit for Volvo Truck.

 

Volvo Vocom Changing Speed Limit Procedures:

Connect Volvo diagnostic interface to Volvo truck DLC,then run software and select “Program”

Select “Service and maintenance”–>”Parameter,Programming”,then click “Start”

Now click “Start” icon and check the box to meet the conditions

Reading data from the control units

Now select “Vehicle ECU”,then scroll down to select “Customer Road Speed Limit”

Here the old value is 100km/h

Click to input new value 120,and click “Continue”

Make sure the value is correct,and click “Program” button

Now then new speed limit value is valid,you can see it here

Procedures:

Remove the CAS

Disconnect protective edging (1) in the region of the left pad (2), the dashboard in the direction indicated by the arrow.

Unclip the left cover (2) instrument panel at the points(3) and remove it.

Release the left ventilation gritle(1) of the clips at (2).

Unlock the clips(3)

Remove the left ventilation grille (1) in the direction indicated by the arrow.

Release screws(1) and(2).

Remove the expanding rivet(3).

Pull the trim(4) ago.

Disconnect the appropriate connectors and remove the trim(4).

X-431 ProS mini for American vehicles, any successful case?

Yes, This tool just arrived a few weeks ago. The quality of the unit seems decent. The best part is the Bluetooth connectivity being quite convenient which allows me to run the diagnostics wirelessly. Thus, I can hold the device in hand while checking the component in my cars and find the root causes of the problem. Moreover, the tool was so accurate and effective that it correctly identified the airbag light problem on my 2012 Chevy Suburban as a bad right front sensor, and the ABS light on my 2007 Ford Focus as an open circuit on the right rear (broken wire), to help me save so much money having my issues known ahead of time and be educated enough before hitting the dealer or mechanic. Great job!

On a Dodge Ram
X431 pros mini is tremendous. It offers features that I didn’t even know were possible without the factory diagnostics.

So far I have completed a relearn on a 68RFE transmission in a Dodge Ram, along with key programming. I have also fixed a power lift gate in a Mercedes-Benz E500 that wouldn’t open beyond a few inches by renormalizing the limits. It also offers coding options for various features, giving you control over things such as speed limiters, power folding mirrors, and climate control functions.

So far it’s only been three days of using this tool and learning the incredible amount of things it can do. That being said, I feel confident in saying it’s the best money I’ve ever spent on any diagnostic tool.

On a 2003 Chevy truck
Just got launch pros mini a few days ago and d promptly put it to work on a 2003 Chevy truck where I was having issues. The unit seems to work a lot like a Tech 2 I had borrowed some time ago but a bit easier to use on the Chevy. I also connected it to my Ford and my Jeep but the jeep is a bare bones from the factory from 2000 so there is not a lot for it to read other than the powertrain and that is limited to the engine because it is a stick. So far I am really happy that I got the unit. It reads way more than my basic older reader and the bi-directional aspect as well as graphing really make it a great tool. Pretty easy to use and intuitive. Mine came with Android 7.0 and ti is a nice case and package.

It even was able to read the obscure Quadraster codes. This is going to be a great tool and the size and lack of all kinds of cables make it easy to use while the vehicle is in motion as well. You still have to know how to interpret the results but it gives you way more tools than a reader. Just one crank relearn cost savings will pay a big chunk of the cost. Totally worth it.

On 08 Caravan
X431 pros mini scanner works great already used to bleed abs pump in a couple cars and reset service lights. Cleared a tranny code on my 08 Caravan that my normal scanner couldn’t. Downside is that its a bit slow but worth it considering the price and 2 years of updates.

Purpose: to perform a PCM replaced procedure to learn/synch the skim / write vins on a 2015+ Dodge.

Question:
I have a good quality Micropod II clone registered for online use with Witech 17. Is this possible? If yes, how?
My micropod clone has firmware version 2.4 and is registered so works with witech 17.04 software and tech authority online.

Suggestion:
if you can use your clone micropod 2 while witech software is online, yes you can perform “restore vehicle configuration” and program the car mileage into the pcm.
you need online account for this of course.. But sellers does not provide online account.

Test reports for sharing:
Did not work… “0x42 unable to write vin, retry restore procedure”.

What to do next?
Do you have any launch scanner tool? easydiag will do the pcm vin and miles change.
as for the skeem learn for a used pcm is not needed as long the vin on the pcm matches the rest of the modules in the car, should work fine.

Also it is possible to write VIN into Dodge PCM using Launch X431 Diagun IV (discontinued and replaced by X431 Diagun V).

Also Autel tools has the ability to write the VIN into Dodge.
the Autel MaxiSys tools (i.e Maxisys Elite) do have the ability to write VIN. Specific function availability will varies by year and model.

Here is an example of the VIN writing options for a 2006 Dodge Ram.

The “Check VIN” function works the same as other scan tools, if there is no VIN in the PCM it will then allow you to write the VIN number to the module.
